Trying to tap into her creative energy

Teagan's craft corner was my pic of the day.

22

I hope we can get her a bigger space when we buy a house. I'd love her her to have an easel and shelves and all kinda neat arty stuff.

She offered up a Volcano (spicy) Vegetarian Taco for the days pic so I'll share that here, too. taco

She told me last night that it makes her sad to think of the animals that die because we eat them and she asked why they had to taste soooo good. lol So she is "trying" (her words) to be a vegetarian but said she thinks it is going to be hard.

A finished order and Friday's T-A-D all in one

I've spent all morning finishing this toy so it is going to be today's thing! Frig ordered it for her niece so I hope they both like it.

Thing-a-day update...

Feb. 6
One of the great this about living in Southern Louisiana is, of course, Mardi Gras. We went to quite a few parades and I couldn’t wait to craft with the ton of beads we got.

I decided to make a bowl. I had planned on making a few melted bowls but quickly changed my mind. I swear this bowl nearly killed me. I knew it would stink but holy cannoli!!!

This started out being iridescent/clear, pink and white… I promise! They took forever to melt, the fumes became unbearable and after 30minutes or so I had to call it done. I draped it over a bowl… I think I should have used a cup for more shape, and let cool. Then some of the foil stuck to the bowl. Sigh

Oh, well. Not every Thing turns out the way we hope.

The thin line between inspiration and theft in the craft world

I'm "stealing" this post, in part, from my dear friend Diane because I think this is an issue that applies to quite a few of us.

Please read her blog entries for today... Here and Here

i just have to write about this since it makes me sick to see the rampant stealing of ideas in the indie craft world. there is a HUGE difference between being "inspired" by someone else's work and blatantly STEALING someone else's designs.

in this age of over exposure by way of the internet via blogs, craft sites, etsy, etc. is an original idea a thing of the past? not unless you are a true artist and not an opportunist. there is a GIGANTIC difference here. an artist is someone who comes up with unique, original ideas and is inspired by the world around them...an opportunist is someone who takes an artist's designs and passes them off as their own.

~ an excerpt from Diane's post

Anytime you share your craft with the world via real life or the web you run the risk of people saying "Oh hey, I could make that!", but when you are making a profit from another persons idea you have indeed crossed that fine line. Tweak an idea, be inspired to try new things, step out of your craft comfort zone. But put your own spin on that idea, improve on a craft you see online, don't just paste your name to it and call it a day.

There are many crafts that are universal, how many of us haven't made and possibly sold marble magnets? But if you are crafting with the intent to sell and become a name then you really have to respect your craft community and decide which side of that fine line you want to be on... just something to think about.

I'm awake so it must be time to...

Make bagels of course. lol I might make pretzels later but I need more flour.

Ok yesterday I got in a mood and I needed to clean and organize RIGHT THEN! After finishing my closet I moved into the kitchen. I scrubbed the cabinets and walls and then started rearranging things. I put this on the wall and wanted to be able to have the paper towels with it. Well I know they sell those combined things but going shopping wasn't in my RIGHT THEN plan so I white trashed up a solution...

I used a tube from a clothes hanger, twisted wire and ran that through the tube, made loops and hung it from twiosock hangers. lol I'm amused. Just call me the White Trash McGuyver. Maybe I'll paint the sock hooks some obnoxious color.

It's just one little thing, you can do it!

Join Nicole and myself as we try desperately to do this... It's just one tiny thing a day, right? ;)

Thing-A-Day

What’s this?

Join artists and creators of all types and backgrounds in a collective creative sprint. Thing-a-day invites you to join in a daily creative endeavor where everyone who signs up commits to making one thing (project, sketch, exercise) per day and shares it online on this collective blog. Take advantage of the opportunity to share ideas and receive constructive advice while developing new work.
How does it works?

* Starting on February 1st, make one thing a day.
* Document this work in anyway necessary to prove to the world that you’ve made something new: write, take pictures, videos, post things online.
* Do this everyday and post to the blog before midnight, 7 days a week.
* You can upload pictures straight to this blog (limit to 200K per post) but you can also host your work anywhere online and post a link to it on the blog. If you have a Flickr account, use it please.
* Introduce your daily accomplishments: give them a name, a title, a punch line, a description, anything that will encourage others to check out your work.
* See what everyone else has been up to and steal ideas, comment on other people’s work or reinvent something they did.
* No recycled old work, no posting someone else’s stuff pretending its yours… we’ll welcome anyone who wants to join and we trust you know the basic net ethics (-we reserve the right to kick someone out if/when needed).

How long will it take me?

You should be spending an average of 20 minutes a day, and no more than an hour.
Do i need to know what a blog is?

* Probably. But if you don’t, you’ll learn it pretty fast. By Day 3 of bugs and troubles, you’ll be all set.
* If you already have your own blog, feel free to post your things anywhere you wish and link to them from here. But remember that people will be most inclined to check out your work if you post at least a picture or a good hook to your post.
How to join?

Hit the Registration link at the top of this page for details,
Why join?

* This is your chance to get your creative energy going and challenge yourself to make something out of all these ideas in your head
* Anything to make February go faster is good
* You know you always wanted to do it and never had the courage to commit
* You’ll get peer support maybe, an audience surely
* You can give up on all of your other new years resolutions after that
* Ze Frank did it for a year…

Well here is the thing...

You have missed a LOT! I'm going to try over the next few blog posts to catch you up on my life and all of the stuff I have going on. Let's start with current events and move backwards. ;)

I made a ring pincushion (pc). My old pc was a pita and when I would stick a pin in it, it would usually slide away which meant I needed two hands and when you are sewing that is annoying.

So problem solved and I recycled. So eco!

Isn't it cute? I wanted to use cute fabric but all I have is felt and socks so... there ya go. A circle of fabric, glue, soda top and hair tie was all it took.
